I'm Alive!Saturday, September 24, 2011“As for me I’d like to thank my lucky stars that I’m alive and well.” – Kenny Chesney When I get texts from friends and family asking if I’m alive, I know I’ve been working a lot recently! And by the way, I really hate the time difference between New Orleans and home, just saying. Yes, it’s been awhile and I apologize. It was a crazy week with work but I’m finally caught up on everything. The most exciting news in my life right now is my schedule for the rest of the semester! While I will still be a resident at Tulane, I’ll get to travel to the following universities: Epsilon Nu x2 Oklahoma State University Stillwater, OK Delta Tau Western Kentucky University Bowling Green, KY (home of phimucc Hanna) note: I absolutely cannot wait for this visit Delta Lambda University of Evansville Evansville, IN (back home againnnnn in Indianaaaaaa… every time I come back to that great Hoosier state, I feel the need to sing our state song) Not only that, but I’m so excited about… Mid-Semester Training Phi Mu National HQ Peachtree City, GA reunited with my phimucc sisterfriends!!!!! And did I mention I get to go home?! Not once, but TWICE during the month of October. Oh man, I can tell October is going to be a good month already J I can’t believe how fast this year is flying by. It seems like just yesterday I was flying into Atlanta with 2 overpacked suitcases not having a clue what I was getting myself into. Since then I’ve made 9 best friends, have met so many amazing Phi Mus along the way, and have grown so much as a leader and as a person - life lessons from the road will be coming soon! I still can’t pass the suitcase weight limit at the airport but if I smile and act surprised, they usually let it slide - some things never change. But seriously, I can’t wait to see what the rest of this year has in store for us J

“I know you were on my side even when I was wrong, and I love you for giving me your eyes, staying back and watching me shine. And, I didn’t know if you knew, so I’m taking this chance to say that I had the best day with you today.” – Taylor Swift
I’ve met a lot of wonderful Phi Mus since I started traveling almost 2 months ago - from the phimuccs, HQ staff, volunteers, and collegians. But I have to say, no one compares to my beautiful, funny, smart, talented, hard-working mom J HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM! Love you and miss you lots. I hope you have a wonderful day, and I wish I could be there to celebrate with you. Thank you for everything! You are my best friend and I love the time that we get to spend together. Brian and I are so lucky and so blessed to have the best mom in the world - I really mean that. And wait, there’s even more reason to celebrate?! That’s right, in exactly 1 month, I’ll be home for the weekend!! I'll get to see my grandma and grandpa and then I'll get to head home for a few days. It'll be a quick visit but it'll be so worth it. I think every blog from now on will include something about getting to go home J I leave for Houston this morning, so I apologize right now for any “Houston, we have a problem” comments. I’ve never been to Texas, so it should be fun!

“Sometimes I grow weary from going all the time. I’d love to take a minute, let you ease my mind. I’d love to see my mama, maybe go for a drive, but I got to play the star in some little town again tonight. Don’t get me wrong, I love what I do. It’s just another song about missing you… Oh, Carolina, keep calling me home.” –Eric Church
This past weekend I hit the road again and traveled to Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. I was so excited to get back on the road and into recruitment season, and this visit didn’t disappoint! Boone, NC is such a pretty little town in the mountains – I fell in love as soon as I got there. And the best part? Their school colors are black and gold – reminded me of home sweet home. Perfect timing for such a visit J The day I arrived, I went to dinner with the President and she took me to this mom and pop restaurant called “Proper.” I cannot even begin to tell you how good that food was. It was southern comfort food at its finest and definitely the best meal I have had on the road so far! It was here that I had my first taste of Cheerwine! It's a cherry-soda type drink, no alcohol (don't worry, I asked!). The next day we had a workshop in the morning where we finalized a lot of the logistical parts of recruitment the next day. Then, the women had a break in the afternoon to go to the football game. I was lucky enough to be visiting App the same weekend Miss Kaitlyn was planning on coming back to her alma mater. She let me tag along to the tailgate, took me shopping, and then took me to an awesome Boone restaurant. I don’t even know the last time I saw a familiar face, so it was nice to meet up with her and have a really fun, low-key afternoon. Kaitlyn, keep me updated on those precious pups J so many laughs that afternoon. Kaitlyn, thanks for being my friend Later that night we had another workshop that, once again, reminded me why I love this job. Coming in for a very short visit, I can’t change the world. Visits like this (and really, all visits) are all about small victories. That night, I felt like there were about 20 small victories. There are lots of ups and downs with this job, but that night, I definitely went to bed with a sense of accomplishment and was very proud of the chapter! loved these Lilly letters! The next morning I woke up and immediately turned on the news to watch the 9/11 specials since I would be busy the rest of the day with recruitment. As a 7th grader, I couldn’t really understand what was happening that day. I honestly had to stop watching some of the footage as I was getting ready because it was such an emotional morning. Once the parties and everything associated with the first round of recruitment was over for the day, I went back to my room and had a chance to watch some more of the footage. As I was sitting in my room, by myself, at 1am, I really started to miss my family. First thing the next morning, I called my mom and talked to her before work – best way to start off the day if you ask me! I’m back in New Orleans for a few days before I hit the road again this weekend! And, it’s official, I’m heading home at the end of October! I’ve already started a countdown. I can.not.wait to be back home! Lastly, happy birthday to my grandma J Love you and miss you all the time – can’t wait to visit you and gramps in Florida sometime this winter!
We Laughed Until We CriedThursday, September 8, 2011“The most wasted of all days is one without laughter.” – e.e. cummings I should’ve seen it coming. No really, I’ll be the first to admit, I deserved it. They got me. They got me good. But, my prank during training was still better! “sins we get the washers” J This week marked the beginning of PR and Interviews at the University of Kentucky where Phi Mu is colonizing this fall. It’s such an exciting time and I know that all of the Phi Mu CCs and HQ Staff are working hard to make this colonization a success! Because of the colonization, about half of the phimuccs are together in I hit the road again this weekend and couldn’t be more excited! I love being a resident but I’ve missed traveling. It’s a quick trip so maybe I’ll pass the under 50lbs weight limit for only the 2nd time since I started traveling! I’m excited to get back into recruitment season and to meet up with a familiar face at the football game!
Hanover HomesickTuesday, September 6, 2011“If I could do it again, you know I’d do it the same.”- Corey Smith For the first time in 4 years, I wish I was taking that 5 minute walk down Ball Drive to my first day of classes. Exactly one year ago today marked the beginning of my senior year. It’s amazing how times flies. If I could go back and relive that senior year – I’d do it in a heartbeat. Hanover, now that I’m gone…I miss ya. The Point - I miss this view As I was looking through my pictures today – getting all nostalgic – I realized just how much fun we had that last year. Sure, those 3 months of studying for comps only to get a B+ were the death of me and my social life, butttttt I passed and therefore, I graduated, so it’s all good. I sure do miss my friends. This was just a few days before interviewing for this job! what a crazy/stressful/exciting/fun week of recruitment and interviews! The last dance ahhhh Formal. I had a great date – so much fun! We've gotta hold on to what we've got. It doesn't make a difference if we make it or not. We've got each other and that's a lot for love. ohhhhhh we're halfway there Gulf Shores, AL. Spring Break. Loved every single minute. Oh man, we were living, didn't waste one minute. We talked and drank and danced and said goodbye. We laughed until we cried. don't worry, I made her take a picture with me everyday 1 class for the last 4 weeks of school. Welcome to the greatest month in all of college history. THIS is what I miss the most. SPRING TERM! I can't even begin to describe how much fun I had those last 4 weeks. I had more than enough credits to graduate so I took my only true blow off class of my college career: Foundations of Athletic Skills. Showing up for class was 75% of the grade :) Graduation. I didn’t cry! What an amazing day. It was tough to say goodbye, but I was very excited for the future. I still remember my littlelittle coming down to the kitchen to say goodbye and the tears were flowing – reminds me of some of the true friendships I made over the last 4 years! my mom has a pic with her parents in this exact location on her graduation day :) And of course, I can't forget my roommates. How they put up with me for 3 long years beats me. Love you Nat and Micah. Rooms 10-4-4 for life. If I could list every inside joke on here, I would...because I still laugh about them everyday. we were such babies! freshman year and the start of the "roommate pic" So to all you seniors out there right now – enjoy this time! This year will seriously fly by and before you know it you’ll be walking across that stage getting your diploma. It’s an exciting and scary time but my best piece of advice would be to live in the moment. Don’t worry about the future – be aware of it, but don’t worry about it. Just make sure that when you leave next May you have no regrets. Yes, it will be miserable sometimes - especially during comps season - but don't complain about it. You'll miss it more than anything when you're gone!
